The border collie is mostly a healthy breed. But we can mention the heritable diseases mainly the CEA, CH, CL and TNS. If you do not know what are these acronymes you can read about later. So these are really dangerous but fortunately there is a way to filter them by genetic test which means can evince from the dog's blood if the four-footed is sick or healthy or healthy but it carry the disease. We need to know about this because it is so important. First of all good for the owner and breeder as well is the dog suffer from any serious disease and what should they expect in the future. On the other hand when the breeders choose the breeding pair and decide which dog fits to the other. They do not watch only the appearance and abilities but study the genetics really accurate. They can choose any kind of dog next to the proof one because if stud them to a sick dog the newcomers can be carry the disease at the worst case. They will be fully healthy but can not stud them with another carrier dog because the chance will be increased significantly to born sick dogs.

Breeders always arguing which dogs will be exclude from breeding. The CEA and CH diseases are not deadly but degrades the old dogs quality of life when caused descreased vision or blindness in the worst case. The TNS is particularly important because those dogs who carry this usually die in a few weeks. According to some oppinions can not exclude from the breeding those dogs who CEA carrier or diseased when they have outstanding appearance and genetic capacity and only have that disadvantage to perpetuates the disease. With careful selection and pairing this dog's descendants can be free from the disease and not let to waste a really good bloodline.
We can barely talk about TNS and CL diseased dogs because they are usually die in a few-weeks-old. That is why so important to carrier dog stud with a non-carrier. Two carrier dogs pairing are really risky because will be born diseased, carrier and healthy puppies and these rates are only controlled by nature and genes.
